Das Festival ‹Culturescapes› widmet sich einer offenen Gesellschaft und verdichtet den Dialog zwischen den unterschiedlichsten Kulturen. Seit 2003 fanden mehrere Festivals statt und bespielten sämtliche Schweizer Landesteile sowie die angrenzenden Regionen Lörrach und Mulhouse. Bei jeder Festivalausgabe nahm die Zahl der Partner und der Besucher stetig zu. Die ‹Culturescapes›-Festivals finden jeweils im Herbst statt, sie dauern zwei Monate und präsentieren 60.000 Besucherinnen und Besuchern mehr als zweihundert Veranstaltungen aus den Bereichen darstellende und bildende Künste, Film und Literatur. Ergänzt wird das Programm durch Hochschulvorträge, öffentliche Debatten und Spezialveranastaltungen.

Die Publikation ‹Culturescapes 2003–2021› gibt einen Überblick über die Festivals Georgien (2003), Ukraine (2004), Armenien (2005) und Israel (2011) sowie zahlreiche weitere Länder, Städte und Regionen, darunter der Balkan (2013), Tokio (2014) Island (2015), Griechenland (2017) und Polen (2019) sowie kulturell und klimatisch hochsensible Weltregionen wie Amazonien (2021) oder der Kulturraum der Sahara (2023) .

This festival brochure takes you on a journey through all “Culturescapes” editions from 2003 to 2021, shares insights into the festival history and plans for the future, presents partners and artists that Culturescapes had the honor to work with over all these years. Culturescapes grew out of Jurriaan Cooiman’s fascination with music and poetry, namely with Anton Webern and Béla Bartók. Since 2003 there were 15 festivals, and 60,000 visitors come to see festival projects hosted by around fourty cultural institutions in Switzerland, Germany, and France. Culturescapes published 8 critical anthologies and will focus on the critical zones of our planet that extend beyond the borders of a single country and face burning issues of global relevance, like Amazonia and the Sahara.
